In 1988, at King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, history was made with the birth of an initiative that would revolutionize affordable spine care in rural India. Under the expert leadership of Dr. Shekhar Y. Bhojraj, who led a specialized team at K.E.M. Hospital, the Spine Unit dedicated to spine treatment was established.

In 1997, The Spine Foundation was founded as the organization’s social arm. This was in response to the realization that the noble initiative needed to extend beyond the confines of medicine to truly improve the lives of countless individuals.
